Shelters and advertising displays can be outfitted with LED lighting powered by solar or traditional power sources. We also offer schedule holders, bench seating, commercial doors and custom grill work. Standard colors are bronze or clear anodized with optional painted shelters offered in any color. You can choose a shelter design from our photo gallery or let our staff work with you to develop the shelter that will meet your needs.

The prototype shelter was installed outside of the Lake County Administration Building, 315 W. Main St., Tavares, which is one of the highest volume bus stops for LakeXpress.

“We are really excited to provide our passengers with this new amenity,” said Ken Harley, Lake County’s Public Transportation Director. “By providing these shelters, passengers of LakeXpress won’t have to

resort to sitting on curbs or in the grass, or be exposed to inclement weather.”

The shelters, manufactured by Brasco International, Inc., were purchased using grant funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Mark Cook Builders, Inc., a local commercial and industrial contracting company, is installing the shelters with an anticipated completion time of summer 2011.

Some of the features of the pre-fabricated shelters include easy accessibility for persons with disabilities, solar powered lights, built-in trash cans and benches and space on the interior to display a route map.

LakeXpress operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. The LakeXpress service includes four routes. Route 1 runs from The Villages to Eustis, primarily on U.S. Highway 441. Route 2 circulates in downtown Leesburg. Route 3 circulates in downtown Mount Dora. Route 4 runs from the Altoona Post Office on State Road 19 to the community of Zellwood on U.S. Highway 441 where passengers can transfer to LYNX route 44.

Fares for LakeXpress are $1 for all trips. Half-fares are available for riders 60 years or older and individuals with disabilities (buses are equipped with lifts). Free fares are available for children under five years of age, who are accompanied by a fare-paying chaperone.
